This scarf is fun, fast, and easy to make!  What more could a girl ask for?
It’s cute, too!  :)

Trendy Tops-Cheapskate Style

Have you heard of Trendy Tops?  Have you seen the infomercials?  Are you tempted to buy them?
Don’t waste your money.  They’re so easy to make yourself!
Check out this tutorial for Belly Bands and make a few Trendy Tops of your own.
belly band text_thumb[2]
Just be sure you use a tight tee shirt or take the sides in on a bigger shirt.  If you make your Trendy Top shorter than the Belly Band, you should be able to get two tops from a tee shirt.  Just stitch the side seams together and hem the bottom.
Now your muffin top and backside are covered, AND it didn’t cost a thing!  Way to go!

Refashion Show

A long, long, long time ago, I organized a “Refashion Show” at my church.  I should have blogged about it before now…
…hanging my head in shame…
But, I’ll share what we did now and you can forgive me later!  :)
I picked up a bunch of stuff at a local thrift store, and I handed it to several ladies in my neighborhood.
Here are the fun ways they refashioned them:

This was refashioned into a cute vest and a headband with a flower.  I do not know where the picture of the finished product went.  Sadness…
P1070895
This awesome “grandma nightgown” still had the original tags on it:
P1080084
I refashioned it into this fun skirt:

It’s cute AND comfy!  The tutorial will come later…

This silky “grandma-shirt” was refashioned into a cute skirt-purse!

…complete with pockets!
P1080295
This GIGANTIC dress was refashioned into a “Mom and Me” dress set.

So, so cute!

This little boy’s dress shirt was refashioned into a toddler girl’s dress.
P1080288
It looks lots cuter with a pink belt and white leggings….  I did this one, too.  I’ll post a tutorial on it later.
I don’t know where the before picture went for this one, but what started out as a pair of fuzzy, brown, toddler-sized pants ended up as a monster pillow!
P1080293
Seriously.  How cute is that?!
A BIG THANK YOU to all the awesome ladies who participated in the challenge!  You have fabulous imaginations!

WIWW

Okay today I don’t have an outfit so much to show you, but more accessories. I heart accessories. A girl can never have too many, right? Once upon a time, I got lots of crazy jewelry from my aunt. She found it at a yard sale. Bags and bags of clip on earrings, brooches, necklaces, you name it.
Costume Jewelry
Well, I looked through that stash the other day, and found some stuff I thought was awesome, but not as is.
New Jewelry (1)
Look at those yellow earrings. Aren’t they fantastic? I decided to take them off their clip on back and put them on “real” earrings. Done. New piece of jewelry. See the pearl cluster and the purple leaf-y thing? Those were earrings. Missing their mates. They’re huge too, so that seems a little weird on someone’s ears. So the pearls became a ring glued onto a ring blank,  and the purple leaf thing became a brooch with a brooch pin glued on the back. Easy peasy. By the way, for some jewelry, I’ll use my hot glue gun. For others, I’ll use E-6000 glue. See that turquoise rectangle? It was a cuff link. I  don’t need those, and my husband doesn’t have any cuff shirts, so I broke off the cuff part and glued it onto a ring blank. (which was actually an old, flat ring that I got ears ago in the 25 cent machine). Finally, the arrow necklace was on a piece of black wire type stuff, which was all bent out of shape, so I took it off that and put it on a chain.
New Jewelry (3)
There you can see the backs of the rings. I love getting new jewelry, for free!! Oh, and the brooches that I’ve found, you can pin those onto a few necklaces and get a look like this:

or pin them onto a scarf and make your own infinity scarf. Nice!

Yay! Downton Abbey!! Hopefully I’ll finish the season finale today!! Maybe while refashioning some more jewelry…Smile Have a good one!

Earring Makeover

Today is Valentine’s Day.  Do you have any awesome plans?

I do.  I’ve got a fun dinner with my guys planned.  I hope they like it.  Heart shaped personal pizzas, heart shaped carrot slices, heart shaped garlic parmesan breadsticks, red Jello, red punch, and a heart shaped chocolate layer cake.  Mmmm…I can hardly wait!

Since today is the day of love, I thought it would be fun to have my Valentine’s day nails, and dress in red, white and black today.  (I need to match my Valentine’s Day décor!) I whipped up a red ruffle scarf…Ash is right…it’s insanely easy and fun!

Easy Earring Makeover and Ruffle Scarf

I also gave my favorite earrings a makeover.

That was also quick and easy.  About a year ago, I got these cute, fun earrings on sale for a dollar.  Score!

P1090221

But, they tarnished after just a few months.  I guess that’s what happens when you buy such expensive jewelry!

I remembered that (a very, very long time ago) one of my friends did her science fair project on rust.  She found that nails that were coated in nail polish (he he he!) didn’t rust, and others did.

That’s what sparked my idea for this earring upcycle.

I decided to paint them red with nail polish…

…and I just LOVE how they turned out!

Easy Scarf with What I Wore

Black, White, Red (2)

Top: Black and White Refashion Shirt, Scarf: handmade, Pants: Target, Purse: handmade by my Sister-in-law, Red Bracelets: ??? Can’t remember it’s been 7 years…. Red Shoes: American Eagle, purchased from DI

Red Sunglasses

And for my fun part, Red Sunglasses from Amazon, Coat from Wal-Mart.

So that scarf? I decided when I was getting dressed I needed a red scarf. Wanna know how easy that is to make?

Make a Ruffle Scarf copy

Cut a piece of fabric 5-6” strips, and sew the strips together to get around 90”-120” in length. If it’s knit, that’s it, if it’s gonna fray, finish the edges. Sew down the middle with elastic for shirring it. Then, sew right next to that line again.

Scarf Sharpie tip copy

Want a great tip? With a scarf, you don’t want the elastic coming through, and you don’t want to keep adjusting your scarf to hide the white. So, color it with a matching sharpie! Voila!

If you want a more detailed tutorial for the ruffled scarf, here’s a good one at Made. Easy Peasy, especially with knit fabric and a rotary cutter!

Holiday Manicure

Remember this fabulous manicure tutorial?  Easy, fun and pretty.  Well, here’s another spin on that French Tip Manicure:

Christmas Manicure by The Crafty Cousins

I did everything the same as the French Tip Manicure tutorial, but I used red, sparkly nail polish.  For my ring fingers, I did the Santa hat first, and used the q-tips and nail polish remover to “erase” the polish and make the straight line for the sides of the hat.  Then I *carefully* painted the white part as straight as I could.  Don’t look too closely at it.  It’s kinda crooked.  Oh well.  It’s fun and festive, and it’s so much fun to decorate your nails for the Holidays, too!  :)

Before I go, I’ve got to share this Christmas silliness:

I sure hope The Hubsters can handle the suspense!!

Lacey Boot Cuffs

This don’t even deserve a tutorial, because they were so easy and fast to make. Basically I woke up just before a Christmas party Saturday morning (everyone slept in since we forgot to set alarms) and got ready, and decided I wanted my boots to have a little more pizazz. I went to my sewing room, pulled out some elastic lace, cut a piece the same size as around my calves, and then sewed it together like a bracelet. Then, because the elastic isn’t even in the center of the lace, I can have a longer ruffle, or a shorter ruffle, and tuck the other part into my boot.
Lacey Boot Cuffs (2) copy
Here they are! And here’s what they looked like:

Remember I told you we did family pictures? It was right after the Christmas party. Here’s a close up

Just for a bit of fun. Do you want some more inspiration? I’ve pinned these in the past to Pinterest.

These lace boot toppers and

these sweater boot socks are both from Rubee Lane. I pinned them because I wanted to remember them in the future, but it’s a daily deal site so these aren’t there anymore.

Do we all remember one of my biggest pet peeves with Pinterest? When you click on the picture and it doesn’t take you to the right spot? This one took me to a Tumblr page with no words, just pictures. There’s no way to even look it up! So I did another Pinterest search and found that it links to a knitting pattern here. That only took me 15 minutes *sigh* Then I went and edited my link to take me there too.

This is from a hilarious post by Jilly & Mia. I was laughing.

C’mon. I dare you. For Christmas?
Anyway, go find some sweaters, old shirts, lace, trim, and buttons, and you’re in business!!
