Before I get into this totally awesome tutorial, did you know that tomorrow is Ash’s birthday? Well, it is.
Be sure to leave this little sweetie some birthday love!
Happy Birthday Ashlee Princess Flower Rose…I don’t remember the rest of your name!
And?! I looked over ALL of my pictures and don’t have any of the two of us together. Pssshhht. We need to fix that. Pretty sure my mom has all of those, INCLUDING the ol’ wedding pics. I did find this one of our kiddos together, though.
Awww…aren’t they cute!
Now then. Are you ready to make a no-sew ruffle scarf?
Me too. It’s really easy.
For this scarf, all you’ll need is two shirts in coordinating colors or just one shirt. Either way.
Cut six circles out of each shirt, or 12 out of the one shirt you’re using. It doesn’t matter if the circles are the same size, or if they’re perfect circles.
Now cut each circle into a spiral.
Straighten it out…
…and give it a good stretch.
Do this with the rest of the circles. You can spiral cut more than one circle at a time. Take all of the ruffles and snip a hole into the least ruffley end of the scarf.
I’m only holding one ruffle in the picture. It looks like there are two holes, but there is only one. I’m just so talented that it looks like two. Or maybe the ruffle is curling so that it looks like two holes. Nah, it’s just that I’m awesome! :)
Anyway, line up the holes and thread each ruffle through the other ruffle’s hole. That is really hard to explain. Here are a few pictures for a better explanation.
See? Like that. Do this with the rest of the ruffles. You should have six long ruffles now.
Line ‘em up the way you want ‘em. Take one of the ruffles and put it under the other ruffles horizontally.
Tie all the ruffles together with that one ruffle.
…aaannnnddd you’re done. Bam.
Isn’t it cute?!
Well, I think it’s cute. If you don’t think so, then we can’t be friends. I kid.
So, random story here…I may have a slight addiction with clothing refashioning and repurposing. Yesterday I was looking for a shirt in my closet. It’s a purple shirt with a gathered scoop neckline and 3/4 sleeves. Super cute. Guess what? I.can.not.find.it.anywhere. It’s just gone. I’ve been missing a lot of clothes lately because I’ve refashioned them. The purple shirt? I can’t even remember if I’ve refashioned it. I sew in my sleep. Maybe I did something with it while I was sleeping? I don’t know. It could be torn into shreds at the bottom of the garbage can with this project fail:
Dang. That was going to be cute, too. Just remember that if you’re going to change a frumpy oversized sweater into a short sleeved ruffled piece of cuteness to NOT take in the sides before you start chopping up the center. Oops. This sweater was tiny. It didn’t even fit my 9 year old. So, I didn’t bother finishing it. Oh well…
Anyway, go chop up some of your old shirts and make yourself a cute new scarf!
P.S. I ramble. A lot. I’m sorry, but I promise it will happen again.
The end.
