Style me this

Did everyone have a nice Mother's Day? I hope so! Mine was good to spend with my mom and family. My hubby bought me something I've been wanting for a long time, so that was nice too! I'll show you it on here when I finish decorating it :)
Okay friends. I have a question for you. How do you get your style and your significant other’s to mesh? I read blogs, and look at homes, and think they are amazing, and then my hubsters comes along, and poops on it. We have very different tastes, but unlike a lot of the blogs I read, where they get to do whatever they want and their hubby is happy as long as they are….us, not so much. He has very strong opinions about decorating, painting, furniture, and other home issues. It gets tricky with color, because he’s also color blind! So, we have a lot of differing opinions. I see some thing that I want to get my hands on and paint it, while he sees the same thing and loves the wood aspect. Can’t please us! So, whenever I see a style quiz, I make him do it too. Just to show how different we are. Don’t get me wrong. I love the guy. We just have to argue discuss talk about little decorating things a lot more than seems “normal”. I actually made a Pinterest board where I’ve started pinning things we both actually love, and shockingly, it has the least pins of ANY of my boards, and I haven’t pinned anything to it as of late….So, the thing that spurned this post was this HomeGoods style quiz. I sent it to him to take, and I took it, and we compared answers. Wanna see how we compared? By the way, we both took it twice, because there were some answers that were harder for us to decide which answer best suited us.
Ashlee, you are a Bohemian Classic
You have a refined sensibility and bring a sense of history and tradition into your decor. You appreciate how symmetrical arrangements and beautiful, well-crafted pieces create a solid foundation to a room. But you like to shake up this restraint with objects and accessories that express your personality and your love of other cultures. When traveling, you seek out unique objects that reflect what you love, and you use them in a sophisticated way. You want people to feel comfortable in your home, and cozy chairs, ethnic fabrics, unique pieces, and even a little touch of quirk or humor give your house a laid-back, Bohemian flair.
You value creativity. You are stylish and fun loving, and can be an inspiration to others. You have a natural sense of drama, and you know you have to be willing to take risks—whether with colors, finishes, furniture choices, or ideas—for your home to stand out. Your home can be happy and lively and the place all of your friends want to be.
Ashlee, you are an Earthy Modern
You keep up with culture, style, and trends, but have an appreciation for timeless forms and simple lines. You value good design, quality craftsmanship, and prefer the streamlined to the overly embellished or cluttered. You also appreciate the warmth and individuality of natural materials and handcrafted things and are inspired by colors and forms from nature. This contrast is what makes your home intriguing and comfortable. You love mixing up different textures and are sensitive to the tactile qualities of objects. Your style is grounded and solid, not flighty or frilly.
You value comfort. Your home is a warm and open friendly place, and you feel happiest when everyone is cared for and relaxed in your space. Elements like pillows, throws, overstuffed furniture, and good lighting set the mood. You may also enjoy layering different fabrics or mixing patterns to create a cozy effect.
John, you are an Earthy Casual
You're interested in creating a welcoming home where people feel comfortable and happiness flourishes. You appreciate the warmth and individuality of natural materials and handcrafted things and are inspired by colors and forms from nature. You love mixing up different textures and are sensitive to the tactile qualities of objects. Your style is grounded and solid, not flighty or frilly. And you are never taken in by the trend of the moment.
You value serenity. While there are probably a lot of interesting things in your home, they are joined by your taste or a certain palette that keeps them in harmony. You appreciate the beauty in simple forms. Whether fancy or plain, you appreciate things that are well made and function as well as they look. You also have a strong respect for the environment and craftsmanship. You care about how things are made, and how they are used.
Yeah, John took it twice, and he got the exact same style both times. I highlighted the words that best described us, and it’s just funny how different we are. When we were living at my parents, I was something of an HGTV junkie. One show that I DVR’d a few episodes of and made John watch with me was Secrets of a Stylist. She takes a couple, figures out their style, and then designs the room first in the girl’s style, and then the boy’s added. It was fun to watch and see how she tried to make 2 styles come together. The main difference between John and I is I love color. I would go CRAZY in a white-walled house, but that is his ideal. I am happy as can be with a couple bucks and the thrift store or classifieds (KSL anyone?Smile) He prefers handcrafted, solid wood furniture and no frills. So, it’s been good for us to live in so many different houses, and try to figure out a compromise in style. What do you do? If you take the quiz (which you should, since it’s fun!), let me know what style you are! Am I the only one out there who has a husband with solid opinions? Smile Oh by the way, I was at the thrift store this weekend (big shock, right?) and saw this beauty.

I took a picture and sent it to the hubs, and he wrote me back and said BUY IT NOW! I was kinda surprised. Something we both loved? So, there is hope, and proof that thrifting saves marriages. Ha ha.  But seriously, whenever we actually agree on something, we buy it right then. Maybe eventually we’ll have a house we both love, eh?

  1. Yes, sometimes decorating can be a compromise and there are many men out there who could careless what the furniture looks like you just happened to snag one with an opinion. You'll see you will find many more items that you will both agree on just like the chest and you will both bend and compromise and create a style that is all your own!!

  2. oh I have one of those too. We 'discuss' alot too, and sometimes I just sneak things in and wait till he notices. Sometimes I wish I had a man who could care less, but then he wouldn't be him, so I just have to try to compromise... or hide it!
