What I Wore Sunday: Week 10

frame to match teal and white
…52 weeks of shaking up the wardrobe…
The Rules:
  1. Wear a different outfit every Sunday.
  2. Incorporate at least one article of clothing or accessory that was either refashioned, sewn myself, or handmade.
  3. Outfits can be worn more than once; just not the same way.
  4. Think outside the box and be creative!
Here’s what I wore Sunday:
week 10
Ha ha ha!  Betcha didn’t see that one coming, did you?!
This is the No Sew Ruffle Scarf I made out of two tee shirts from the closet.  One was mine, the other was The Hubsters’ shirt.  I wonder if he even knows I chopped up his shirt?  Welp!  He does now!

What did you wear?  Show us!
Link up to anything you have refashioned or sewn yourself.  It doesn’t have to be dressy, and it doesn’t have to be worn on a Sunday.  It doesn’t even have to be worn by you.  Show it off!
  • No links to shops or giveaways, please.
  • Link back to Crafty Cousins on your blog, too, okay?
  • Bonus points for following Crafty Cousins!  :)
  • Tell your friends about the What I Wore Sunday Link Party.  What’s a party without lots of partiers?!
We'll feature the most viewed links next week on What I Wore Sunday.
Can’t wait to see what you’ve come up with!  Happy linking!  :)

Pinterest inspired Apartment Ideas

So this week’s Pinterest & features are inspired from Vintage Revival’s challenge this week. Since I’m moving this week into a furnished basement apartment, there’s only so much I have control over. I can’t paint, do much rearranging of furniture, or do any renovations. So, I’ve been looking for inspiration from blogland to get ideas on how I want our place to look and feel in the ways I can control. For the laundry closet:

For my crafty area (though I don’t know what space I’ll have, so I’ve been looking at space-saving ideas)

(source unknown)
Then for the kidlet’s room, they will have to use the beds that are there, but I thought this would be fun to dress them up:

And I plan on doing something like this for their room too:

Since we get an insane master closet, I want it to be awesome. Maybe like these:

Those are just some ideas. Basically, we’ve been living the last year and a half not sure where anything is (storage unit, someone’s house, in a box, in another state, etc.….), so I want our place to scream organized. I want to know where every single thing is, and everything makes sense & has a home. While we’re unpacking (again), you can bet I’ll be purging again. Once it’s organized, I can get to work on projects that make the house ours. My goal is to make the basement seem like something that is ours, and that makes the furniture we have to work with awesome. Look forward to tips & tricks to make things yours while renting! Thanks for reading!

DIY French Tip Manicure

DIY french tip nails (8)

Who’s feeling girly?

In my world of men, sometimes I just need to feel like a girl.

My guys think I am insane, but sometimes, I’ve just gotta primp.  I am a girl.  It’s okay!  :)

Let’s do our nails today, m’kay?

It will be like an online Girl’s Night Out!  Yay!

…except that it’s morning.  But, I digress…

I really didn’t know how easy this was.  My good friend does nails professionally, and she taught me this little trick.

DIY french tip nails (2)

All you’ll need is a few Q-Tips, some nail polish remover, some white nail polish, and some clear nail polish.

DIY french tip nails (3)

Start with clean, dry nails.  Eww.  They don’t look so pretty there.  No worries.  Gonna fix that!

DIY french tip nails (4)

Apply some white polish to the tip of your nail.  Who cares what it looks like?  Not me!  :)

DIY french tip nails (6)

Clean up the edge with some nail polish remover and a Q-Tip.

DIY french tip nails (1)

When it’s dry, apply some clear polish.

Yay!  Pretty!

It’s nice to feel like a girl every now and then, isn’t it?

That’s just me?  Oh well.  I love being surrounded by all this testosterone, but every once in a while, I just need to be a girl!  :)

Birthday Celebrations Cont…

Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, Happy birthday to me!
Hee hee, I’m funny. Okay, so my hubby and I celebrated my birthday last week because we are actually in the process of moving. Right now. As you’re reading this. Wish me luck. Good thing for pre-scheduled posts, eh? Anyway, I was driving last week, and listening to my favorite radio station, while picking up an awesome free Craigslist item (can’t wait to start that bad boy!) and they were broadcasting at the City Creek Center in Salt Lake, that was opening that day. As I listened, I got the idea that it’d be fun to go and see it. So, we hopped on the FrontRunner train and rode to Salt Lake, then got on Trax (Utah’s public train/bus systems), and didn’t have to worry anything about parking! I took a bunch of pictures with my phone, so enjoy! (Disclaimer: I didn’t intentionally take pictures of random strangers. If you’re in the pictures, well, what are the chances!)
First store we stopped at was a tea store, since my hubby loves his herbal teas and mate. Gag. But, this tea was pretty cool.
City Creek Center (2)
See that little ball on the plate? You drop that in the water, and it turns into this huge decorative flower thing. It’s hard to tell, but it’s in the jar right by it.
Anyway, the City Creek Center (go here to see their website and everything they’ve got!) is 2 city blocks, that has a sky bridge to connect over Main Street in SLC, and has the city creek running through the middle of it. It’s an open air mall type place, and is 2 levels on both blocks. It’s BIG.
City Creek Center (7)
It’s got little ponds, and fish swimming around all through it.
City Creek Center (6)
See the creek?
City Creek Center (3)
It’s got a nice food court, and this fun area for kids play at. Funny thing, there’s a Disney store, but you have to wait in line to even go inside! It’s like a 20 minute wait! I almost thought I was in Disneyland!!!
City Creek Center (5)
A waterfall…
City Creek Center (8)
Fountains and splash pads to play in…While we were there, there was musicians, bands, and singers at different locations. Very cool.
City Creek Center (10)
It’s got a lot of very high-end shops, but there are some there for us commoners as well. Smile I took this picture just to send to my brother.
City Creek Center (12)
Pretty view of the temple across the street.
City Creek Center (11)
Wait, what’s that across the way?
City Creek Center (9)
Wait for it…
City Creek Center (13)
Oh baby!
City Creek Center (15)
The perfect place to get rid of the mean reds! (sidenote: the cute skinny jeans are from my awesome sister-in-law, the gray purse is from my other amazing sister-in-law, and the sweater is a steal from Miya Designs. If you live in Northern Utah, you should totally go there!)
City Creek Center (1)
And finally, the drool-tastic store of them all! We spent the longest in the store, and I snapped tons of pictures of things we loved, and price tags that were insane! Even more exciting?! There’s an Anthropolgie coming!!!
So, if you’re in Salt Lake, you NEED to go see this place. It was so fun! After, we walked down to 4th South and ate dinner at the Star of India. De-li-cious! We’ve been there before, but it has yet to disappoint. If you love Indian food, you must eat there. If you don’t love Indian food, you need to try it!!!!! We had Aloo Chat as an appetizer, garlic Nan bread on the side, Lamb Shahi Coconut Korma, and Chicken Tikka Saagwala. Oh baby, loved it. Then we walked back, rode the Trax & FrontRunner, and got home to girls in bed! (thanks Mom!!)
By the way, just because I feel like it, it’s my birthday, so I’m giving somebody a present! I have a $15 gift card for Great Harvest Bread Co. that I’ll mail to a random comment on this post (you should be able to use it at any Great Harvest). Answer these questions (1 comment total):
What fun adventures have you been on lately? Do you think the Crafting Cousins should have a Facebook page? What about Twitter? I’ll be honest, I’m scared and intimidated by Twitter. What is your favorite birthday traditions?
We'll end this when I have internet again, so Saturday night? 8:00 PM.
Thanks for reading!
By the way, I'm nowhere near cool enough for anyone I mentioned in the above to know who I am, much less pay me for it. I just love their stuff!

No Sew Ruffle Scarf

Before I get into this totally awesome tutorial, did you know that tomorrow is Ash’s birthday?  Well, it is.

AshleeTPmess

Be sure to leave this little sweetie some birthday love!

Happy Birthday Ashlee Princess Flower Rose…I don’t remember the rest of your name!

And?!  I looked over ALL of my pictures and don’t have any of the two of us together.  Pssshhht.  We need to fix that.  Pretty sure my mom has all of those, INCLUDING the ol’ wedding pics.  I did find this one of our kiddos together, though.

Grandma Bradshaw Party (5)

Awww…aren’t they cute!

Now then.  Are you ready to make a no-sew ruffle scarf?

no sew ruffle scarf caption

Me too.  It’s really easy.

For this scarf, all you’ll need is two shirts in coordinating colors or just one shirt.  Either way.

no sew ruffle scarf 1

Cut six circles out of each shirt, or 12 out of the one shirt you’re using.  It doesn’t matter if the circles are the same size, or if they’re perfect circles.

no sew ruffle scarf 3

Now cut each circle into a spiral.

no sew ruffle scarf 4

Straighten it out…

no sew ruffle scarf 5

…and give it a good stretch.

no sew ruffle scarf 6

Do this with the rest of the circles.  You can spiral cut more than one circle at a time.  Take all of the ruffles and snip a hole into the least ruffley end of the scarf.

no sew ruffle scarf 7

I’m only holding one ruffle in the picture.  It looks like there are two holes, but there is only one.  I’m just so talented that it looks like two.  Or maybe the ruffle is curling so that it looks like two holes.  Nah, it’s just that I’m awesome!  :)

Anyway, line up the holes and thread each ruffle through the other ruffle’s hole.  That is really hard to explain.  Here are a few pictures for a better explanation.

no sew ruffle scarf 9

no sew ruffle scarf 10

See?  Like that.  Do this with the rest of the ruffles.  You should have six long ruffles now.

no sew ruffle scarf 11

Line ‘em up the way you want ‘em.  Take one of the ruffles and put it under the other ruffles horizontally.

no sew ruffle scarf 12

Tie all the ruffles together with that one ruffle.

no sew ruffle scarf 13

…aaannnnddd you’re done.  Bam.

no sew ruffle scarf 14

Isn’t it cute?!

no sew ruffle scarf 16

Well, I think it’s cute.  If you don’t think so, then we can’t be friends.  I kid.

So, random story here…I may have a slight addiction with clothing refashioning and  repurposing.  Yesterday I was looking for a shirt in my closet.  It’s a purple shirt with a gathered scoop neckline and 3/4 sleeves.  Super cute.  Guess what?  I.can.not.find.it.anywhere.  It’s just gone.  I’ve been missing a lot of clothes lately because I’ve refashioned them.  The purple shirt?  I can’t even remember if I’ve refashioned it.  I sew in my sleep.  Maybe I did something with it while I was sleeping?  I don’t know.  It could be torn into shreds at the bottom of the garbage can with this project fail:

P1050705

Dang.  That was going to be cute, too.  Just remember that if you’re going to change a frumpy oversized sweater into a short sleeved ruffled piece of cuteness to NOT take in the sides before you start chopping up the center.  Oops.  This sweater was tiny.  It didn’t even fit my 9 year old.  So, I didn’t bother finishing it.  Oh well…

Anyway, go chop up some of your old shirts and make yourself a cute new scarf!

P.S.  I ramble.  A lot.  I’m sorry, but I promise it will happen again.

The end.
